Take an empty networking suitcase

While you are on holidays look for opportunities to bring value back to your contacts.

The holidays season can be extremely useful for networking. In a previous post about the “networking suitcase” you read about the importance of preparing your self-introduction. This is useful to gather new potential contacts.

Let’s focus now on another very important aspect of networking: nurturing your network by bringing value back to your contacts. This is where the notion of taking an empty suitcase comes into play. During the holidays you will fill your empty suitcase with things to bring back to your contacts.

During your holidays you might read different newspapers, see different places, stay at hotels you didn’t know before, and many more things you don’t do in your regular working days.
You should have a process going on in the back of your mind which is checking continuously whom might be interested by what you are reading, seeing or doing.
For example, check who will be interested in:

  • The local newspaper article you are reading?
  • How the customers are treated at the restaurant where you are eating?
  • The booking process of the hotel at which you are staying?
  • The wonderful scenery you are enjoying?

While on holidays, enjoy while you find ways to bring value back to your contacts!
