A manifesto about feeding your network [article comment]
Last week I came across an excellent Manifesto on networking: “The care and feeding of your network” (by Bob Allard and Richard Banfield).
Here are some bullet points showing what I learnt from it:
- Care for others’ success. “You can’t fake caring.” You will not be a good networker until you find a way to really care for the people in your network.
- Networking cannot be treated like a task.
- “Think creatively about how to help”.
- It is extremely important to follow-up.
- Networking takes practice. The more you do it the better you’ll become at it. It’s like riding a bike. You cannot learn it by just reading about it. You have to do it.
Enjoy reading that manifesto and keep practising!
