Adapt the self-introduction to your new corporation

Congratulations for your new job at a corporation! Even if your job starts in a few weeks time, you must start building your network inside that corporation.

As a good networker, you have a well-rehearsed self-introduction. Now you need to adapt it to your intra-corporation networking. This self-introduction, even if brief, needs to answer the following questions:

  • What is your role in the corporation?
  • What do you bring to the corporation?
  • Why you are not a threat to your peers?

You must prepare your self-introduction before you start your job. Of course, you need to continuously adapt it as you learn more about the culture of the corporation and its units.

Of course, after accepting the job, you contacted the many people that had helped you getting that appointment. You thanked the many “advisers” that paved your path during your job search. During those conversations, some of them suggested you give his/her regards to someone they know in that corporation. You can even prompt them to do so by saying something along the lines “Would you like me see someone on your behalf at XYZ Corp?”

You are getting the seeds for your network in the corporation. You will sow them soon!
